Facebook will rank the content that loads faster into the priority

Aug 14/2017

Facebook announced the upcoming update of the algorithm for news feed on mobile devices. In the upcoming months, the social network will begin to take into account the speed of downloading pages from published links in the ranking. As a result, users will see the content that loads faster first.
Facebook notes that such factors as current connection to the network and the usual speed of page loading will also be taken into account. If the analysis of these signals shows that the page will load slowly, then the link in the news feed will be ranked a little bit down.
According to Facebook, Internet users often refuse to visit the website, if they have to wait for it to load since it takes time. Thus, 40% of visitors to websites are not ready to wait for the page to open for more than 3 seconds.
It should be recalled that in February 2017 Facebook began to take account the relevance and authenticity of publications in the ranking. This innovation was one of the company's steps to fight against fake news.
Facebook updated the algorithm to fight clickbay-headers in user tapes in May. Now it drops individual posts down, not the pages and websites that use this technique.

A new crypto currency left Bitcoin

Aug 03/2017

On August 1 a new crypto currency named “Bitcoin Cash” or BBC separated from Bitcoin. All investors automatically become owners of this currency, while retaining the existing bitcoins.
Bitcoin Cash assumes an increase in the maximum block capacity to 8 megabytes. However, its size can vary depending on the needs of a particular user. The BBC also introduces a new way of signing transactions to eliminate “hash” problems.
The new crypto currency also shared the passions between the exchangers. Coinbase, one of the most popular services stated that it will not support Bitcoin Cash, which means that its users will not have access to this currency. As a result, the bitcoin holders, who are entitled to an equal amount of the split currency will be lose it as customers of Coinbase.
An outstanding lawyer Tim Wu compared this situation to a cow keeper with a calf, which in its turn not considered part of the property of the original owner.
Coinbase also stated in its user agreement that it has the right to choose whether to support changes in the Bitcoin software or not. The company said that if in the future it decides to support Bitcoin Cash, it will distribute balances that were accumulated before August 1.

Facebook bots invent their own language

Aug 03/2017

Today artificial intelligence is an area of increased interest for technology companies. However, the latest Facebook experiment showed what are unintended consequences the new technology can bring.
Facebook scientists created chat bots that could communicate with each other in the framework of the project on the application of machine learning. As part of the experiment, the agents were instructed to automatically determine how to divide a group of elements. When the bots started to communicate with each other, something interesting happened:
At first this dialogue seems to be nonsense. In fact, as Facebook claims, chat bots dynamically generated their own language and were able to understand it.
According to the invited Facebook researcher Dhruva Batra, agents invented their own code words. For example, if you say "the" five times, it means that the bot needs five copies of the element. People act in the same way.
These results led the researchers to the next question: what if artificial intelligence systems can work and communicate without human involvement? To train a neural network, developers from the US have to spend time on its understanding of the syntax of the English language and the structure of sentences. Scientists believe that if AI systems are allowed to work without the use of human language, then this can greatly accelerate their learning.
